Housing, Office, Public

  • The plot is located in Arcostraße in the neighborhood Charlottenburg in central Berlin
  • How do you build on the corner of a dissolved Berlin block?
  • Should the volumes stay below the 22m limit?
  • Maximum program, maximum public space
  • Building heights adjusted to fit the law of distance to surrounding buildings
  • View to the Spree for everyone
  • A typology suitable for construction phases
  • Diversity in public and semi-public exterior spaces
  • Flexible groundfloor open for future changes
  • An open floorplan that can be reconfigured into small arpartments, larger apartment or be mixed with office/atelier spaces
  • The supporting structure for East-West orientated apartments and corner apartments

Arcostraße in Berlin-Charlottenburg is located at the Spree. The site is marked by a great mix of sport, carpentries and cafés, which shall be preserved throughout the development. We propose loft typologies to maximize the potential of the site. Lofts are adaptable structures: large windows, open spaces allowing to be reconfigured over time. Construction and utilities are condensed to an inner core leaving remaining floor space open for interpretation and redefinition.
In lofts personal engagement and feeling of freedom go hand in hand – just like in Berlin!
