At the end of the 50s, Neue Vahr was conceived as the city of the future. How does the city of the future of yesterday become the city of the future of tomorrow? GEWOBA took this question as an opportunity to review its housing portfolio and the current situation in Neue Vahr. Together with ARGUS and bgmr, COBE Berlin, examined the Neue Vahr along the three themes “Mobile City,” “Blue-Green City” and “City for All.” The Mobile City addresses the accessibility of Vahr in the overall urban context of Bremen and improves its accessibility, promotes more sustainable mobility and shows solutions for a long-term transformation in traffic. The Blue-Green City activates green and open spaces for the residents, makes water and park landscapes tangible, addresses local rainwater management, promotes health and creates beautiful, ecologically diverse places. The City for All meets the challenges of demographic change and the diversification of lifestyles, offers solutions for more accessibility and barrier-free living, promotes co-existence and interculture, looks for more living space and the new forms of housing. It identifies places of work, improves supply and thus enables the inhabitants of Vahr to remain in their traditional quarters for a long time.
